Welcome to training at the Maritime Rescue Training Unit. Please read these guidelines before attending the course.
The Maritime Rescue Training Unit is located in Lohja, Finland. Arrival instructions can be found at here.
There is plenty of free parking in the courtyard of the Rescue Training Unit. Four electric car charging points (22 kW, Type 2) are available to customers and chargeable.
Training usually involves swimming, being in the water, climbing and/or other physical exertion. It is therefore important that the participant is in good health. In practice, a normally fit participant will be able to cope with the training.
If you are in doubt about whether your health is good enough to participate in the course, check with your doctor. You must not attend the course under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances. If you are or suspect that you are pregnant, please discuss your pregnancy with your doctor. For more information on the content and requirements of the course, please contact the training planner.
The participant assesses his or her own health status on a pre-course registration form. Maritime Security staff have the right to refuse a person's participation in the training for health or other reasons.
There are two changing rooms with lockable lockers for the use of trainees. Bring your own toiletries and towel! If you need more privacy than usual or need a gender-neutral changing room, please contact us before arriving.
Sea Safety will provide you with a cotton coverall, rubber boots, a lifejacket and a helmet. For your own equipment, you will need a swimsuit or body suit and socks with slippers. Please note that these will get wet during the exercise.
For HUET courses, you will receive a dry suit, warm mid-layer suit and helmet from Meriturva, but we recommend you use your own dry suit. As your own equipment, warm underwear (e.g. a layer) and socks are sufficient. Please note that these will get wet during the exercise.
During the boat courses, Maritime Safety will provide you with the necessary protective clothing for outdoor training. Please make sure you have the appropriate clothing for the weather under your protective clothing.
The use of your own clean life jackets, costumes and equipment is possible during exercises with the permission of the Maritime Safety staff. Sea Safety is not responsible for the equipment or any damage caused to it.
In GWO training courses, Meriturva provides you with the necessary training clothing, protective and fall protection equipment, as well as dry suits and life jackets for water exercises. Participants are responsible for providing their own underwear or swimwear. GWO training courses also offer the possibility to wear personal protective equipment, fall protection equipment, dry suits and life jackets.
Before the training, remove all jewellery and other objects that could come loose and fall into the water or get caught on the equipment. Valuables should be left at home, as Meriturva is not responsible for items lost in lockers or other premises. With the instructor's permission, you may use a telephone or take photographs, but the equipment is at your own risk.
Course participants can dine at Meriturva's own restaurant, Merituule. Any special dietary requirements must be notified in advance. The Rescue Training Unit has a course hotel, where you can find more information from the accommodation page.
It is important to follow the instructions of the staff on the premises and in the area. In the event of a fire alarm, everyone will move to the outdoor assembly area.
Customers are responsible for any damage or costs they may cause to Meriturva or other customers. Any shortcomings or malfunctions should be reported to Meriturva's staff as soon as possible.
Smoking is only allowed in the designated smoking area in the Sea Turtle area.
